9 Packing Tips and Tricks for your Lamps and Lampshades

Packing lamps and lampshades can be really tricky. Just like any other breakable items, lamps and lampshades need extra attention in packing. However, it does not take a pro to successfully pack lamps and lampshades. All you need are the right materials and arrangements to keep them safe and scratch-free during and after the move. Here are a few packing tips and tricks you can follow: 1.
Make sure you remove the harp and the bulb before packing the lampshade. 2.
Pack the lamp and the shade separately. 3.
Use crumpled packing paper as bumpers to provide support to your lamps. Place them at the bottom of the box which should be at least 3 to 4 inches thick. 4.
Choose a box large enough to accommodate the shade.  You can use 1.5, 3.1, 4.5, or 6.1 cubic foot size box. 5.
Pack the lamps separately with brown paper pads or bubble wrap. If you should pack the lamps together, make sure you put padding on the top, bottom and sides to prevent shifting during the move. 6.
Do not place too much cushion on the shade.  Shades are fragile and can easily be damaged.  If you are packing silk lampshades, it's better to have it packed in a separate box as they are more delicate than any other type of shade. 7.
Secure the top and the bottom of the box with packing tape. 8.
Finish by labeling each box as "fragile". 9.
When placing the box in the truck, load it in an upright position. Make sure there is nothing else stacked on top.
